Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Book by James Lapine
An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? They're all among the cockeyed characters in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's fractured fairy tale for grown-ups. When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red Ridinghood, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). Just how far will they all go to get their wishes? And will they all really live happily ever after?
A vibrant and exciting new production of the complete Sondheim classic, performed in the round in an intimate professional venue. Little Red Ridinghood, Jack, a Giantess, Rapunzel, Princes galore, all trying to find their way through Wolves and Witches and Trees. An amateur production by permission of Josef Weinberger on behalf of Musicscope International of New York.
